This large, handsome young Doberboy is bursting with energy and enthusiasm.  He’s bright, curious, eager, and loving.  All he lacks is the necessary training to bring all of that to its full potential.

You’ll have no doubt that he wants to be with you and engage you and have your attention and participation.  There’s not a malicious bone in his body, but he’ll slaughter you with his love.

Apparently a fellow who lived in an apartment got him as a pup and tried for about six months to make it all work with limited space and time.  Once it was clear that was too much, his folks became the reluctant care givers, but they’ve finally accepted the fact that having a large, young, highly enthusiastic dog was not their choice in the first place, and having given it the old “college try” for their son’s sake, they made the wise (for them) decision to surrender him.

We’re delighted they did, because this is a thoroughly worthy Dober with a tremendous amount to give who just needs a loving family that can give him the time, training, and attention he needs to mature into the well-rounded adult he is about to become.

He’s very kind and playful but doesn’t know yet not to jump up.  He’s just a bundle of good will without the awareness or training yet to properly manage all that enthusiasm.  That having been said, you can’t observe him without realizing he’s just overflowing with the best of intention and desires and simply needs someone who can show him how to direct that boundless energy and enthusiasm.

Here’s how some of our volunteers describe him:

“Gillighan is a happy, friendly Dobie. He doesn't understand how big he is, and he jumps on you when he’s excited, but that will resolve itself with a little time and correction.  He has a beautiful coat as well.”

"Very happy and energetic male with a lust for attention.  Was very friendly when meeting him for the first time."

"Gillighan is a bundle of joy. He is my kind of dog. He wagged that butt around and had me laughing. He eventually laid next to me a chewed on a bone while I loved on him."

"Gillighan is a great guy full of energy but patient and willing to take a backseat as it were to a more dominant female."

"Gillighan is all boy! The first time we met, he jumped up on me for a face to face meeting. Hahaha! He will learn to not jump up with a little bit of work though. He just doesn’t know how big he is. He’s just a big guy who seems full of energy and happiness, and is not shy by any means!"

"Gillighan is an high-spirited young man with an absolutely adorable face! He is the friendliest “little” guy you could ever imagine, and my heart just about exploded when I saw him holding his toy in his mouth with his butt wiggling back and forth at about 100 mph! He loves to play, and he also loves to be the center of attention! He’s my kind of dog!"

So if you’re up to making this nuclear reactor in Doberman form a part of your family, make an appointment to meet him once your application is approved, and come spend a little time with him to see for yourself.

My guess is, once you see what a terrific boy he is, you’d even be content to spend the rest of your life with him marooned on a tropical island.
