This precious young Doberboy came to us from a shelter.  He had been found as a stray and judging from the marks on him, he’d been in some sort of a scrap along the way.  He also has an old scar on his neck from having been tied out to the point that his collar cut into his neck.

I’m struggling with going on a rant here, but what’s the use?  I guess I’ll just say how happy I am that he found his way to Elijah’s House, where he’s been checked by the vet and bathed and fed and exercised and played with and LOVED as he awaits a new, proper, forever home.

For all that he must have been through in his young life, he has retained his sweet personality.  Not surprisingly he was a bit timid and uncertain upon arrival, but in his short time with us it has become clear to him that we’re just here to care for him and he’s responding beautifully.

Dobers pretty much need to know what the rules are and what the game plan is.  Once it’s apparent to them, they pretty much roll with it.  If it’s not a positive situation, they tend to hunker down and survive.  If it’s a good situation, they really blossom and their best traits come happily forward.

That’s what’s happening with Cider.  Not that there was anything negative about him to start; it’s just that already he sees this is a good place and he’s opened right up and is participating joyfully.

When he goes to a new home he’ll be eager and ready, because he’ll be coming from a happy environment where he was treated well and interacted with.  It never gets old, seeing the transformations these dogs experience between arrival and departure.  And while we’d like to keep them all, we’re just thrilled to have a part in seeing them safely and healthfully on their way to a permanent, loving home.

One of our volunteers shares this observation about Cider:
“Cider is a handsome boy with such cheerful energy!  You can just see his excitement as you approach him, and it’s downright adorable!  He truly wants to be as close to you as possible, and he loves being scratched all down his back!”

That’s about as typical as it gets and a sample of why we love them so.

If this handsome, trim fellow appeals to you and you have a home that will love, honor, and cherish him all the days of his life (Yuh, it’s kinda like a marriage), make an appointment to meet him once your application is approved, and come see for yourself if he’s the one for you.  You bring the donuts; we’ll provide the Cider. :-)
