Some people just don’t get it.  This handsome Doberboy came to us from a fellow whose friend had originally owned him.  He came to the realization that he could not spend the time with the dog that was needed, so this second fellow happily took him and planned to make a good life with him.

He checked with his landlord prior to taking him, was granted permission, and Cherokee moved in.  Things went along fine and everybody was happy.  Everybody, that is, except for certain of the neighbors who shortly came to the conclusion that this handsome Dober was “too intimidating.”

As a result of the complaints from the neighbors - mind you, no incident or problems at all - the landlord told the fellow he’d have to find a home for the dog.  Now he is at Elijah’s House while he awaits a home where the neighbors aren’t ignorant.

As you can see from his pictures, he’s fabulously handsome, interested, and just waiting for whatever comes next, eager to be right there and involved.  If he can’t find anything going on, he’ll create something on his own.  He needs to be engaged and interactive.

My personal Doberboy will take his toy when we go outside so we can play together.  If I end up doing something else or talking with a neighbor for a few minutes. He’ll politely take the toy and play with it himself, keeping an eye on me as he keeps himself entertained until I’m available.  The moment I’m available, he’ll come to me and we’ll play together.  This guy is similar - ready to go at any moment and willing to make his own entertainment if there’s nothing else going on.

In addition to his striking good looks, he’s well-behaved, good with cats, and walks well on leash.

Our volunteers have shared these comments:

“He appears to be a fairly calm, stable, athletic dog that likes to be up close and personal with people.”

“Anyone looking for a well-mannered, attentive, and loving companion will hit the jackpot with this boy!  He likes to be close to you, and you might just find him parked in your lap.  I was pretty impressed with him. He’s a sweetheart!”

“Cherokee was a little shy to come outside of his run at first but warmed quickly.  And one of the other volunteers found him to be a big lap dog later in the day.”

Mind you; this is an intelligent dog who wants to be engaged.  It’s probably this fact that intimidated the uninformed in his former apartment building.  He’s looking to be engaged and interactive, and if no one is interacting and there’s nothing going on, he’ll make his own entertainment, even if it’s posturing at the dog in the next run.  Nothing about him is negative in any way, but he wants contact with people if they’re around, even if it’s just sitting in a lap!  (How’s that for intimidating?)  :-)

If this handsome, engaging Doberboy sounds like a fit for your family, make an appointment to meet him after your application is approved, and come see for yourself what this “never-was-a-wallflower” boy is like.  Chances are, you’ll enjoy many years of interaction and loving engagement if you do.
