These two lovely Dobergirls came to us together, having been picked up as strays. Their owners never came for them, so they have come to Elijah's House as they await new homes. We have no other history on them, but they obviously have been well fed and were apparently used as breeders. (No longer; they are both spayed now.) Based on what we've seen of them so far, they are happy and well adjusted ladies and are available to be adopted separately.

Katia is the older of the two and so far tends to be a bit more staid and sober-faced, so to speak. Irma is the younger, and is a bit more assertive.

Both are absolutely delighted to have any attention they can get, and they both indicate their delight with their nonstop “helicopter tails” when someone shows them a bit of love.  It's really precious to see, and it’s especially hilarious as their tails sometimes “helicopter” in unison!

Katia may bark briefly at a person with a hat, but that passes quickly once she sees he's just there to make of her.

Both have beautiful, deep red coats and are healthy and at ease. And both are larger-than-average for Dobergirls, but they are phased in the least by that fact, and they carry themselves with confidence.

Here are a couple of observations from our volunteers:

“Katia- what a sweet, gentle soul! I allowed Katia to get comfortable with me and took it slowly so she knew I was only there to give her lots of love. After a couple of minutes, she was nearly sitting in my lap enjoying a back rub! I just love her, and wait until you see that tail wag!”

“Irma- Irma has a playful, sweet spirit about her. She is absolutely precious and is extremely happy to receive any and all love and attention you are willing to provide! She truly just wants to be near you so that you can shower her with adoration. What a lovely gal!”

“Katia was very boisterous at first with me, but after I stood by her kennel and pretended to ignore her while she checked me out for a bit, she decided I was alright, although she was still reserved. She would walk over to stand by me and let me pet her a little. I think she may just need a slow intro with people and perhaps more so with men.”

“Irma is super sweet. She walked right up to me and leaned in for some petting and just looked up into my face, wanting to be loved on. She was calm, confident, and very open to affection.”

And Mama Carol shared this follow-up observation regarding them:

“When they arrived at Elijah's House for the first time, they stepped down out of the vehicles and we took them each into one of the large, open fields. They took short, hesitant steps and then the leashes were removed. Again there were a few tentative, hesitant steps, and then they let loose and ran and ran and ran around those fields. I honestly think this was the first time in their lives that they have been loose to run and romp as they pleased. Both rolled in the grass the way playful horses will do.”

These great ladies are zaftig love sponges who just long to be the center of someone's world. If you think you may have such a loving home, make an appointment to meet them after your application is approved and come see if you can choose between them.  Of course, while they are free to be placed separately, you may just want to take them both!
