This big, handsome older Doberboy came to us from a home where he had been a house dog until a couple of years ago when one of his humans had a health problem. Since then he has spent his days tied out in the yard and his nights in the basement.
He came to us with an ear infection, intestinal worms, arthritis (never having been on any meds), and is hypothyroid. Thankfully we’re well-accustomed to treat these needs. In addition to clearing up the ear infection and intestinal worms, and he’s already showing improvement as a result of the thyroid and arthritis meds. Additionally, as with any senior Doberman, he has been put on supplements and a correct diet.
Aside from the manageable medical needs, this is a great-hearted fellow of the best Doberman sort. Despite his large size and considerable strength, he’s very gentle. He's a happy dog with a wagging tail whenever he greets you. He loves it when you fuss over him. And after being tied out for the past couple of years, he’ll run in the fields just for the sheer joy of being free! It's heart warming to see. Our volunteers have shared a couple of observations from working with him:
“Ahh, sweet Willie! He really knows how to work a room. As our group sat together outside, he went to each person in order, giving and receiving love, making sure each human got a share of his attention and vice versa. Then he just kept making that circle. Such a big, gentle, love bug. He would be good company. I can’t imagine feeling alone with him at home.”
“Sweet old man Willie is a gem. He’s a very handsome guy with the most precious gray snout, and he loves attention! Willie enjoys being outside and frolicking around for a bit with you by his side. And he loves belly rubs, a nice scratch behind the ear, and giving gentle kisses! What’s there not to love?”
"Willie is a lively boy. He makes me laugh all the while bouncing around me, trying to get me to play with him."
Between the profile and his pictures, I think you can see what a terrific companion he is. I know he’s older, but as with old people, old dogs need love too, and this one has a lot of health and strength and good will and just plain love to give.
If Willie seems as though he’d be a match for your home, make an appointment to meet him once your application is approved and come spend a little time observing him and loving on him and being loved by him. I’m confident an open heart will be filled by this old boy, and a loving home will be blessed.
