This is quite an interesting story and one that shows true heart in the folks who rescued this stunning little Dobergirl and helped her find the way to Elijah's House.

A house repo man (a job one might not normally equate with empathy) saw this precious Dobergirl when he went to a house to repossess it. He immediately felt pity for the skinny little Dobergirl living in pathetic conditions.

Her owners said she had apparently been abused by someone with PTSD. This was reinforced by her reaction when hands were raised near her. In addition, they were planning to sell her. On hearing that, the repo man pulled a hundred dollars out and tried to buy her, but they demurred, so he added another $50 and was able to close the deal.

Once he left with her, he called his wife and explained the situation. She was willing to temporarily take the dog in and seek a proper forever home for her, but very shortly she realized that she was not prepared to deal with screening the unknowns who responded to the adoption ad, so instead she started contacting rescues in an attempt to find a solution, but this also initially failed, since most would not take large breeds and/or Dobermans.

Thankfully, as part of this process she contacted DRT, and you know what happened then. Here's how the man's wife described things at that point:

“It was such a blessing when you responded to my message.  I have been so stressed out about it all.  She is a super great dog, just hates cats and will aggravate small breeds - (good with large breeds). She is so sweet and loving even after all she's been through in her short life.  She really loves me.  We've only had her a month, but she became a part of our family.  My husband couldn't stand to let her go to a home where she might be a breeder, and she was so pathetic and super skinny."

After all that she has been through, it's no surprise that she's hesitant with meeting new folks. Nevertheless, she warms up and enthusiastically gives kisses.

Our volunteers shared these comments about her:

“Matri is a sweet girl. She likes to cuddle and give kisses.”

“She likes to go for walks but pulls a little on leash in her excitement.”

“She loves to get up and be in your lap. She's very affectionate.”

“She's a little shy at first but she warms up quickly and is affectionate and very friendly. She has a lively playful personality but isn’t overbearing or rambunctious. She seemed easygoing but attentive.”

If this beautiful loving, petite Dobergirl speaks to your heart, make an appointment to meet her once your application is approved, and come get to know her a bit. Chances are if you do, yours will become the forever home she so thoroughly longs for and deserves.
