Wow, wow, wow. Are these two large, handsome Doberboys (Holiday & Toast) great, or what? Each one is stunning in his own right, and together the sum is greater than the parts, if that were possible.
They came to us together from a home where they had lived since pups. Their mom recently had back surgery and could no longer walk them, spend time with them, and give them the attention they needed. Their large size notwithstanding, these are two very loving and sweet boys.
Holiday sucks his blankie to go to sleep, is great at the dog park, and knows the following commands: “Sit, come, no, sit, shake, down.” So far he seems to be more at ease with women than men, but he warms up after a bit.
Toast loves walks and is also great at the dog park. He knows to sit and shake on command and especially likes to shake for treats. (Why do I get a mental picture of him standing on a street corner with a sign around his neck that says “Will shake for treats?”)
Together they are crazy for chasing bubbles (we have a bubble machine), which they delight in popping when they catch them! They also can be walked together by one person. They feed off each other and each follows what the other one does, for confidence. They're both quite friendly and want to play with other dogs. Their former owner took them to the dog park all the time.
One of our volunteers has this to say about them: “Holiday and Toast are both reserved when they first meet you. They are happy playful boys. Inside, Toast likes to be touching you at all times. He is very happy if you hold the bone for him to chew on. Holiday will alternate between play bowing and giving kisses. Both boys enjoy being petted.”
When they first came to us, our idea was to place them together. But now that we've worked them for a few weeks, we've decided that placing them individually will work and will be the best for them both in the long run.
If your heart and home are big enough for one of these large, handsome boys, make an appointment to meet them after your application is approved, and see for yourself how terrific they are.
You may arrive thinking one would be a holiday, but that idea may be toast once you’ve met them both!
