Here’s a sweet little 10-month-old Dobergirl who came to us from a family that couldn't afford to take her to the vet for treatment of Demodex mange. Seeing their poor puppy in this condition and not being able to do anything about it, they made the difficult but wise choice to let us take her, restore her to good health, and find a new, loving home for her. The good news is that after being treated it all gone now, and her coat is growing back (as can be seen in the more recent photos)
She also had inverted eyelids, which was probably a secondary result of the Demodex. Initially the vet thought this would require corrective surgery, and we started setting aside funds for that, but following four more exams her eyelids seem to be back to normal and no surgery is needed at this time.
She’s a sweet little girl - a bit tentative around new folks mainly because she's been crated most of her life. That having been said, she warms up quickly and is certainly affectionate. She loves to play with squeaky, plush animals, and she also totally loves to play with Dagny, our beloved resident spastic Doberchild. You can see them together in some of the pictures.
I should add, however, that when it comes to playing with other dogs, Mama Carol reports that “she is a rough-and-tumble young Dobergal that wants her way.” In fact, her most recent playmate is our 105 lb. Doberboy guest, Toast, and she handily holds her own with him!
Our volunteers are quite taken with her. I’ll let them speak for themselves:
“I can’t say enough about this sweet girl! That face - those little wrinkles - her personality - so wonderful! She’s initially quite shy, but she warms right up and really is a joy to be around! It’s hard not to love her!”
“Willa is very calm and quiet in her run. She will happily let you pet her and kiss on her without a problem. Outside she enjoys playing with toys with you.”
“Willa is a very sweet young one that is benefitting very nicely from socialization. She seems shy at first but quickly warms up - a very sweet, sweet baby.”
If a (soon-to-be) pretty, playful, gentle young Dobergirl is what you’re looking for, make an appointment to meet her once your application is approved and come see for yourself what a precious child she is. I’m thinking total cuddle factor here, for many years to come.
