Through no fault of her own, this lovely Dobergirl has come back to us after 2½ years in her adopting home.  (This is one of the beauties of our program.  We are committed to our dogs for life.  If something happens at any point after an adoption that prevents the adopter from keeping the dog, we take it back and meet its needs until another home can be found.  That’s pretty good stuff, if I do say so myself!)

She has come back due to changes in her family.  She was in a home with two Dobers and all was happy, but the husband has been stricken with Alzheimer’s, and the wife cannot manage the care of both dogs under the changed circumstances.  As a result, Fergie has been returned to us so we can do what we do best - find another loving home for her in light of these recent changes.

She continues to be the loving and affectionate girl she was when she was with us originally.  Her surrendering owner says she also knows to sit; stay; down, up, wait, and leave it on command.

I’ve included her original profile in bold below, so you can see what brought her to us originally.  It is a sad and maddening tale, indeed.

Just when you think you've heard it all. This lovely little girl was left tied to a vehicle near a drop off box at a shelter. Really? And what if someone had gotten in and driven off, not having seen her? Time for a blood pressure pill. Beyond that, we don't know much about her except that she's as good as they come from what we've gotten to know about her in her brief time here at Elijah's House.

There's not a lot to say about her really, other than that she is easygoing and has a gentle personality. She of course is loving, playful, interested, engaging, and eager to please. And I do love those beautiful, velvety, natural ears. I can just see and hear her now as she leans in and moans gently as they are rubbed and caressed.

All in all, a great catch for anyone wanting a Dobergirl, so make an appointment to meet her after your application has been approved, and see if she may be the one for you.

With that, you know what we know.  Now it’s time for you to experience what we experience as we spend time with her from day to day.

Comments from our volunteer:

I met Fergie today and my evaluation is:  ‘Instant Companion’.  She just wants to be loved, and she looks for and responds to your guidance. For example, she ran through the fields at Elijah’s house while I was picking up.  When I would decide to move to another field, I only had to holler ‘Come girl’ and she would immediately stop and come running back to me.  And whenever I was talking with another volunteer, she would oh so gently touch my hand to remind me that she would love to be petted. Oh my, this is a love bug.

If a loving, gentle affectionate, obedient Dober is what you’re looking for, make an appointment to meet her once your application is approved, and come see for yourself what a treasure she is.  Maybe yours will be the “forever” home she so richly desires and deserves.
