ROUNDING THIRD AND HEADING HOME
ROUNDING THIRD AND HEADING HOME
If you've been following the profiles in the past few weeks, then you know that five Dobies from the same family have been making their way to Elijah's House as space has been available for them. Black Beauty (we call him Blackie) is number three from that family, and his brother, Blue Moon (we call him Blue Boy), has just arrived, as well.
This is a lovely group of dogs from a great home that simply could no longer keep them, and as part of this group Blackie portrays the qualities that we know and love most in Dobies. He is a big, beautiful boy from a home that raised him since a pup and loved him dearly.
The Dobies I've known over the years have often been an intriguing combination of noble dignity and no shame. What I mean is, a stunning, dignified, sitting-or-standing-erect Dobie will often think nothing of climbing into one's lap at the slightest invitation, real or imagined, and then lying there, sprawled out, giving subtle and sometimes not-so-subtle hints that it wants to be made of - absolutely shameless.
Well, our boy Blackie has added a twist to that already pathetic (you know I'm teasing here) shamelessness by jumping up (when invited) to give kisses and get his ears rubbed.
Blackie comes on command, knows the command to sit, has a gleaming coat, and as you can see from the pictures, is a happy boy who loves to play. (He loves to ride in a vehicle too, but I'm beginning to wonder why I even mention this anymore, as I have yet to know one that doesn't.)
Perhaps due to being from a family of five Dobers, he hasn't had much training on the leash. He joyously and eagerly takes it, but he does pull. That having been said, he clearly is a keen and capable learner and no doubt would come along with the leash with a little guidance.
Blackie is a shining and joyful example of what we love and look for in Dobers. Come meet him; play with him; try not to be enticed by that handsome face and lovely disposition. Just make sure you bring a vehicle with space for taking him home.
