Something Special for Mothers Day. . . First Heart
How about giving Mom a Very Special present this Mothers Day. Actually, this would be a special Mothers Day gift for Mom, Grand mom, even Great Grand Mom. This is a Hand carved Emu egg ( the Emu is the Australian Cousin to the Ostrich ) and it features a very special Mothers Day design. The egg is carved, using a Dental Lab hand piece and Dental burs and this style ( a new technique the Artist came up with ) allows the design to be viewed on the white, inner layer, of the shell, much like looking into a shadow box. There are actually 3 distinct layers to the shell, the dark green outer, teal green under that and then the bright white inner layer.
The egg stands about 6 inches tall and the display stand does come with it. All proceeds go to the Dobes at DRT and to make sure of that, the egg will be shipped, and postage paid, by the artist. Please remember, when bidding, this is for the Dobes at DRT and Please bid accordingly. Egg Carving is a demanding and tedious art and many hours go imto the making of each egg. One little slip means tossing that egg and starting over again. There is no correcting mistakes.

In fairness to those folks who have a Natural ears Doberman, I am now carving one and it has found a place on the Silent Auction. I've been thinking of doing one for a while but, like the other Doberman design, I wanted a Special Dobe for the model.
Takoda, our Doberman we adopted from DRT, was the model for the cropped ear design and he was a Special Rescue. Carol rescued 5 Dobes from a Puppy Mill and Takoda, then known as Denzel, was one of the Fab Five. He was also a Special Needs dog, blind and with Diabetes Insipidus, a dog that a lot of organizations would turn down. Thankfully, Carol believes all Dobes deserve a chance at a good life and will go the extra mile to try and save that Special Needs Dobe.
I wanted to do a Natural ear Dobe but wanted to find that Special one, one like Takoda. I found her right on DRT's Available Dobes page, a Very Special Dobe - Raisin. Not only Special but Special Needs and a great example of the love Carol has for each and every Dobe that comes through the doors of Elijah's house. This egg design is dedicated to her and like Takoda, I know she would want to help those that continue to be welcomed by DRT.

Here's a fabulous gift for the Doberman Lover, or any dog lover. It is a Hand Carved Emu egg, done by Ron Cheruka, one of the best known egg carvers around, and this is a new style of carving for him. The Emu is the Australian cousin to the Ostrich and the colors you see are the actual colors. Carving the design into the dark green outer layer was the first style tried but the dark layer did not allow the design to be seen correctly. It was hard to discern what it was. For this style, the design is reversed and carved through the back of the egg, an opening is then cut in front of it and you are viewing the design on the inside, bright white, of the egg shell. It is much like a shadow box. The egg is about 5 to 6 inches tall.
The display stand does come with the egg and please remember that every cent goes to DRT. To make sure of this, the egg will be shipped by the Artist. Please bid accordingly.

SCULPTURED HORSE ON BASE (Donated in memory of Sweet Zena)

This sculptural horse was produced by Alva Studios of New York and is an authentic reproduction of an original work of art housed at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. Alva Studios is famous for these high quality works of art and this piece was purchased at the Museum in the mid 1970s. It is composed of some kind of plaster with a smooth, somewhat glossy finish. It has the original Alva Studios foil sticker still attached to the bottom, on the intact Metropolitan Museum sticker.
Horse measures: 8.5" long by 6.5" high and weighs approximately three pounds.
Dark Grey/Marble Base measures 6" x 6" x 2" and weighs approxiately seven pounds.

Since its arrival at the Museum in 1917 the Egyptian faience sculpture has been a favorite with visitors, and for many years has been known as "William"—the Metropolitan's unofficial mascot.
